British Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with France's air force in a joint strike on an underground arms cache in Syria used by the Daesh militant organization, according to the UK's MoD.
The site, pinpointed through surveillance, was assessed as containing munitions and bombs, the statement said, and was situated in hills just to the north of the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"Our aircraft employed laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to hit a series of access tunnels down to the depot... initial indications suggest the target was engaged successfully," the ministry announced.
There was no evidence of any civilian casualties in the operation late on Saturday and every plane involved returned to base without incident, the MoD added.
The Typhoon FGR4s were backed up by a Voyager tanker plane.
Daesh - referred to as ISIS - imposed extremist governance over large swathes of Iraq and Syria until 2019.
"This strike underscores the UK's leading role, and resolve to work closely with allied nations, to eradicate any revival of Daesh and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the Middle East," the British Defence Secretary the minister said.
RAF aircraft have conducted patrols over Syria to "forestall any attempted resurgence" of the group following its defeat at the Baghuz confrontation in 2019, the MoD reported.
"I extend gratitude to the personnel of our armed forces participating in this mission for their skill and their bravery," Healey said. "They were part of a great many British personnel deployed over the holidays. This action, to take out dangerous terrorists who pose a risk to our security, demonstrates how UK forces are ready to step up, continuously, ensuring Britain's security domestically and powerful internationally."
In December, the US military carried out what it termed a "massive strike" targeting IS targets in Syria, following an attack resulted in the deaths of two American soldiers and a civilian interpreter in the Palmyra area.
The United Nations says Daesh still has an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 fighters in Syria and Iraq.
